With the new immigration law coming into place during 2006 for GP, for newly appointed and existing trainees regarding information on their work permit status and the process for applying for a work permit - there is information on the SYSH Deanery website www.syshdeanery.com under permit free training which may be of use, and the Department of Immigration website gives further information. It is the trainee's responsibility to ensure their work permit does not expire and the responsibility of the employer to arrange work permits and a new work permit must be obtained for each change in employer, ie. whenever a trainee moves from GP Practice to Trust or vice versa. Usually leave to remain would be issued for the length of the training period i.e. 3 years for a full rotation.
