What Happens After VTS?

Your career prospects are EXCELLENT.

General Practice in the UK is undergoing change at quite a pace. The focus on Primary Care as being the bedrock of British Medicine is now being recognised and developed.

This offers enormous opportunity for new GPs to develop a wide range of interests including clinical specialities, which they can deliver to a local community. Many older GPs are retiring or reducing their hours so there are plenty of good quality GP posts available. So you should be able to find a practice that suits you in an area where you want to live

Barnsley-trained registrars have an excellent track record both in the MRCGP examination and in settling into principal's jobs in the area.

Many more women are now choosing General Practice as a career with a view to part-time or full time posts. With Barnsleys flexible approach to part-time training, having a family does not mean not having a career and there tends to be a significant number of part-time vacancies locally.

So - whatever your career, family, and personal needs are, there has not been a more exciting time to enter General Practice.
